The project purpose is to apply the concept of tuned mass damper to attenuate earthquake-like simulated horizontal oscillations of the top end of a building-like structure. Students use a simple pixel-tracking software to track a point of the frame top to generate an exponential decay-like graph from an initial horizontal displacement. Students use the logarithmic decrement method to calculate basic vibration parameters for an approximated model of cantilever beam, and compete to get the best attenuation result.
