Yirmi yıl önce anne ve babasını öldürmekten suçlu bulunan Melvin Mars ölüme mahkûm edilmiş, infaz saatini beklemektedir. İnfaz için tüm hazırlıklar bittiğinde tuhaf bir şey olur; bir itirafçı ortaya çıkar, cinayetleri üstlenir. Tüm eyaletin gündemine oturan bu haber FBI için oluşturulmuş özel bir birimde çalışan polis dedektifi Amos Decker'ın da ilgisini çeker.
