Summary, etc	Türkiye'de 20. yüzyılın ilk yarısında dünyayı şaşırtan iki büyük savaşım örneğj verildi. Bu iki önemli olaydan biri, çökmekte olan Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'ndan yeni bir cumhuriyet yaratan Ulusal Bağımsızlık ve Kurtuluş Savaşımızdı (1919-1923). İkincisi de, savaştan sonra kurulan yeni devletin kısa sürede gelişip ilerlemesini etkileyecek, yerli bir eğitim ve kalkınma seferberliği olan Köy Enstitüleri hareketidir(1935-1946). Türkiye'nin 21 bölgesinde kurulan Köy Enstitüleri, öncelikle kız - erkek kırsal kesim çocuklarına eğitimde fırsat eşitliği sağladı; Cavit Orhan Tütengil'in deyişiyle "Halk tabanında bir rönesans" hareketi yarattı. Enstitülerde 110 yılda yetiştirilen öğretmen sayısı aşıldı; 6.000 öğretmenden 16.000'e ulaşıldı. Okur sayısı 5.000'den 17.000'e çıktı. Öğrenci sayısı 380.000'den 1.500.000'e yükseldi. 9.000 eğitmen, 600 köy sağlıkçısı yetiştirildi. Kendisi de enstitü çıkışlı olan Pakize Türkoğlu, elinizdeki incelemesinde, başından sonuna kadar tanıklık ettiği bu eğitim seferberliğini, belgeler ve fotoğraflar eşliğinde anlatıyor.--Back cover.
