Summary, etc	Avrupalıların Doğu'ya yönelik ilgisi 13. yüzyılda Haçlı seferleriyle başladı. Ancak bu ilginin yönü zamanla değişti ve 1204'te Haçlıların Bizans İmparatorluğu'nun başkentini ele geçirmesiyle salt dinsel bir nitelik taşımadığı ortaya çıktı. Bu planlar yüz yıl kadar Memluklar, Anadolu Selçukluları ve Bizans'a yönelikti. Avrupalıların Türklerle ilk kitlesel teması da bu seferlerle oldu. 14. yüzyıldan itibaren de Avrupa'da fetihlere başlayan Osmanlı Devleti bu planların son ve değişmez hedefi oldu. Yüzyıllarca üretilen onlarca projenin çoğu tarihin tozlu raflarında kaldı. Varlığı bilinen bu projelerin ilk sistemli derlemesini, 20. yüzyıla girerken Romanya Krallığı'nın İstanbul elçisi olarak görev yapan diplomat ve araştırmacı Trandafir G. Djuvara yaptı. Farklı ülkelerin arşivlerinde yaptığı çalışmalarla o zamana dek bilinmeyen, unutulmuş projeler de keşfetti. Balkan Savaşları sırasında hazırlanan bu kaynak eser yeni baskısında, yazarın 1930'da yayımladığı anılarından seçilen, 1896'dan Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin kuruluş yıllarına uzanan döneme ilişkin çarpıcı bölümlerle birlikte okuyucuyla buluşuyor.--Back cover.
